Ethan, Roseanne & Morgan Set Career Records in Races Run

Morgan Temanson has competed in 33 races in her cross country career more than any other girls in OC's history - 28 varsity and 5 non-varsity. With the post-season coming Morgan is scheduled to race in her 35th race at CIF SS Prelims which will pass Kyle Block's 34 races and will make her the most persistent cross country athlete in OC's history. Of course the best way to end that career would be with a 37th race at State Finals!

When Ethan Long toed the line for the 60th annual Mt SAC Invitational's varsity boys sweepstakes race, he was about to race in his 31st career varsity race. Ethan has never raced in a non-varsity race. 31 varsity races ties him with Kyle Block for the most varsity races in OC's history for a male athlete. With an anticipated four more races this season, Ethan will end his high school cross country career racing varsity (and overall) 35 times which will past Kyle Block's record of 34 total races.

Roseanne Fleming also has jumped into the record book with career races, varsity races to be specific. RJ has raced varsity 28 times (plus one JV race as a frosh at Stanford's 3k) and 29 total times. RJ's 2007 Stanford race put her past Laura Fredrickson for the career varsity races record and her Fillmore run put her past Laura Fredrickson and Amber Meissner for total career races -second only to Morgan.

Mt SAC Recap

Fri, Oct 19th - The Lions took a partial squad to the 60th Annual Mt SAC Invitational. The largest high school invitational in the United States. The weather was pleasant leading into Friday, but in the tradition of Mt SAC the heat came back although slightly less than last year. Temperatures in the mid-90's welcomed the early races with some moderate relief for the evening races.

The afternoon kicked off for the Lions with the freshmen . Ryan Huning (20:20), Devin Long (22:57) and John Gonzales (23:03) debuted on the traditional 2.91 mile course in the boys frosh race. Then the frosh girls ran next led by Cristina Garcia who tallied her third victory of the year in a very relaxed paced 20:54. On the season Cristy has not been beat by a freshman (in the same race). Brittani Gardella placed 6th with a fine 22:08 and Niki MacWhirter was 24th with a 24:46. The three girls rank 4th, 6th and 13th respectively on the OC frosh list in their first run on the course.

The sophomores were next led out by Nick Colarossi who was pace to set a personal best and place in the top 3, but tripped just past the 2 mile mark. Nick elected to withdraw. Kevin Sutman ran a personal best 25:58. Fallon Cislo (26:38) and Genesis Goma both debuted on the Mt SAC course.

After a short break the action continued with Jennifer Philen (30:10) racing in the JV race and then the boys in the division 4 JV national championships. The boys squad was short-handed due to academic conflicts with this being the end of the quarter. Had the team been in tact, they would have cruised to a "national title" but had to settle of 4th as a team. Maybe next year. Bobby Nordlund led the charge with a debut 19:42 followed by Nick Matra's 19:51 personal best on the course. Greg Sadler (20:12 PB), David Goeser (20:25), Anders Reimer (20:28 PB) and Tyrel Borowitz (28:52 Debut) rounded out the team.

The varsity athletes were represented in the sweepstakes races by Emily Fuld (20:48 PB)Ethan Long (16:58), Rafael Garcia (17:41) and Justin Sullivan (17:46 PB) who ran for the workout. Emily led the all OC girls and improved her personal best by 4:10 while Justin carved 40 seconds from him previous best. OC Girls Win Stanford, Boys Second

Sat, Sep 29th - The Oaks Chrisitian Cross Country teams made their annual weekend trip to Stanford University Cross Country Invitational. This was the 8th consecutive season that the Lions have competed in this meet rolling around the Stanford Golf Course. 35 athletes participated. The varsity teams solidified their State and Southern Section rankings with big performances. The girls won the team title and the boys took runner up honors.
The boys JV started the competition for the Lions led by Senior Bobby Nordlund who ran a 11:05 3k followed closely by Frosh Ryan Huning in 11:06. Bobby's time is the third fastest ever by a OC JV athlete on the Stanford course and Ryun tied the OC Frosh record. Senior Greg Sadler (11:19), Senior David Goeser (11:23), Frosh John Gonzales (11:23), Junior Nick Matra (11:24) and Junior Anders Reimer (11:30) packed together for the best team finish by a JV team at Stanford in OC history (8th) in the Div 3-4-5 race. They also crushed the OC team time record with a 56:16 (old record 56:53).
The girls JV was next led by Frosh Niki MacWhirter (12:57) becoming the second fastest frosh in OC history at the 3k distance. Soph Fallon Cislo (14:07), Frosh Jackie Brody (14:30), Frosh Kirsten Temanson (15:17), Junior Matra Galan (15:29), Junior Michelle Walling (15:31) and Junior Jennifer Philen (16:30) comprised the team squad which broke the OC team time school record posting a 72:20 (old record 72:52).
The boys varsity toed the line next and hammered out a team time record of 85:41 led by Junior Charlie Petrie's OC record of 16:27. Charlie also established a new junior record as well. Ethan Long was next equalling the OC senior record of 16:53 by Kyle Block and Junior Hunter Hays was close behind in 16:57 to become the second fastest junior and fourth fastest performer of all time for OC. Senior Rafael Garcia (17:41), Senior Mike Colarossi (17:43), Senior Justin Sullivan (17:44) and Soph Nick Colarossi (18:06) completed the effort. The boys placed second as a team for the second year in a row. Last year they lost to Carmel at Stanford then beat them at the State Finals...look out St. Mary's, Berkeley!
The girls varsity brought home top honors with a rather surprising victory and the first ever Stanford Invitational Title of OC either gender. Roseanne Fleming led the way with a school and senior record of 18:49 and a 4th place finish. Cristy Garcia place 14th overall and established a OC frosh record of 19:31 surpassing Breanne Strenkowski's old record of 19:53. Senior Samantha Roesler (19:38), Junior Emily Fuld (19:45), Junior Tina Boskovich (21:16), Senior Morgan Temanson (21:31) and Junior Catherine Price (23:08) rounded out the team performance. The girls smashed the OC team time school record by...ready for this?...ten minutes and forty seconds (10:40!). The old record was held by the team led by Amber Meissner and Laura Frderickson in 2002.

Next race will be at the Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park - Fresno, CA on Sat, Oct 6th.
