State Finals

Seniors Legacy Includes Being the Best in OC's History

Girls Team Places 4th with OC team time record, Petrie Finishes 6th sets OC record

Sat, Nov 28-30, 2008 - The day after giving thanks and eating heartily with family the cross country teams traveled to Fresno's Woodward Park in preparation for the California State Finals. For six consecutive years OC has been making this journey to the State Meet. Every year trying to carve out a piece of history and maybe make the OC cross country program a little bit more distinguished in the process. Well, we have a little more to be thankful for due in part to the leadership of the seniors.

The girls stepped to the line at 11:10 am, led by sophomore Cristy Garcia's 0:20 second personal best and the second fastest individual performance in OC history. Cristy posted a 19:18 and only Roseanne Fleming's times 18:46 (Clovis 05) and 19:04 (State 04) are faster in OC history on the Woodward Park course. Junior Fallon Cislo built on he great performance at CIF SS Finals by running even faster on the longer course. Fallon's 19:37 was only 3 seconds from the OC junior record. Emily Fuld pushed under 20 minutes with a 19:57 becoming the fourth female in OC history to break 20 minutes. Senior Tina Boskovich posted an impressive 20:22 for the third fastest senior in in OC history. Freshman Megan Huning who ran the third fastest frosh time in OC history, only Roseanne Fleming and Cristy Garcia are ahead of her on the frosh list. Senior Catherine Price posted a 0:42 second personal best 19:44 to become the fourth fastest senior in OC history. Niki MacWhirter was the seventh girl in the line up. The girls team finish was 4th overall. The girls broke the OC team time record by 1 minute and 37 seconds over the mark set by the 2007 state championship squad. The senior girls end their OC cross country careers as the fastest team in OC history!

Charlie Petrie and Hunter Hays stepped to the line at 12:40 pm. For both of them this was the 3rd time in their careers that they have competed in the state finals. Charlie and Hunter join Roseanne Fleming and Ethan Long on the list of most state finals appearances in OC history - 3. Charlie improved his OC record time 0:22 seconds from last year's state final and crossed the line in 15:50 while placing 6th individually (also an OC best). Hunter Hays equalled his best mark on the course with a 16:25. Charlie and Hunter end their OC cross country careers as the fastest two runners in OC history elevating the bar well above all else!

Later that evening Charlie came from behind to smash Hunter in a game of bowling 109-79...!
