Stanford Memorable Weekend
Fri-Sun, Sep 26-28, 2008 - The Lions ventured north to Palo Alto for the ninth time in OC history for the Stanford Invitational three-day weekned. The team visited the campus and visited with Chris Owusu as well who took a group into the Stanford Football locker room (some thought this was exciting, I just thought it smelled bad).
The boys varsity raced first led by Charlie Petrie's OC record 16:12. Senior Hunter Hays (17:24), sophomore Ryan Huning (18:00), Vincent Colarossi (18:05), rookie junior Rob Thomson (18:49), and freshmen AJ King (19:04) and Stephen Cooper (19:05) made up the varsity squad. The boys placed 10th as a team.
The varsity girls raced next led by Cristy Garcia's 19:28 which ties Roseanne Fleming's OC sophomore record. Seniors Emily Fuld (20:17) and Tina Boskovich (21:01), sophomore Niki MacWhirter (21:16), junior Fallon Cislo (22:09), senior Catherine Price (22:18) and freshmen Madagan Riley (23:36) filled out the varsity roster. The girls were short-handed and on tired legs, and yet still showed that they will be a force in the post-season. The girls places 6th as a team.
The boys JV raced next in the heat in a combined division 1-2-3-4-5 junior varsity race. Senior Nick Matra (18:56), sophomore Jacob White (19:54), freshmen Taylor Losi (19:58) and Jack Ramsey (21:09), sophomore Grant Foraker (21:21), and freshmen Nick Oddi (21:31) and Poblo Gomez (22:54) comprised the JV team. This was the first time that the JV raced covered the full 5k distance as they were run at 3k in the past.
The girls JV rounded out the day with sophomore Jackie Brody (24:52), senior Clancee Wasson (25:13), freshman Brittany Burr (26:23), sophomore Natalie Zaas (27:48), and senior Marta Galan (30:27) comprised the girls JV team. Esther McFaden made the start but withdrew to rest her knee injury.
