Mt SAC Hills, Heat Do Their Worst; OC Still Rolls

For the first time this season the boys team walked away from a course without a new team time OC Record, or an individual OC Record. Fastback, Woodbridge (fastest team time OC history), Oak Canyon Park, Stanford, Clovis and Lake Casitas records have been rewritten, but Mt SAC slipped away this time. The boys will get another shot in the postseason (CIF Prelims and Finals). The athletes who had previously run the full MSAC 2.91 mile course fared better than the first-timers, although the heat clearly took its toll on everyone.

The BJV got the racing started for OC in the hottest temperatures of the day. David pulled away from the rest of the BJV team to finish in 20:17. Greg (21:25), Robbie (22:11, a PR by 3:25) and Dylan H (22:16) also ran BJV. Shaleene was our sole GJV finisher.

Scott (22:13) and Kevin ran in the the boys freshmen race. Jenna and Lillian ran in the girls freshmen race. Nick M led all non-varsity perfomances when he placed 20th in the boys sophomore race with a PR 20:08. Anders (21:14) and Dylan B (25:08) was slowed by heat illness / deydration.

Technical problems with the meet timing led to no official times for some of our athletes. There were more than 19,000 entries in 100 races starting every 6-8 minutes for the two-day meet. I can understand some technical difficulties.

The girls varsity D4 sweepstakes race featured three OC girls. Samantha led the way with a PR 21:12, Morgan fought heat illness / deydration to a 23:28 and Emily posted a 24:58 - a 4:07 PR.

The boys varsity D4 sweepstakes closed the races for OC with the boys placing 4th as a team and defeating all the southern section teams. Charlie out leaned Ethan as but ran 16:34, respectively :37 and :52 second PR's. Charlie and Ethan are now tied for #3 in OC history (E Meissner & K Block both ran 16:30). Hunter (17:11) becomes #5 all-time OC runner slipping ahead of Stephen Roesler's 17:12. Others include Nick C (18:13), Justin (18:26), Rafael (18:34), and Tyler's (18:50)1:01 PR.
